My First Client

Everyone had told me how nervous they were having to work on someone other than family for the first time and I understood what they were feeling but unfortunately I didn’t feel that way at all.  I had wanted to do this for so long that when I finally got there I was ready to show everyone what I was made of.  My first service was a pedicure and I was still a little unsure about the ins and outs of a client consultation and what to do first but overrall things went smoothly.  I spoke to my client and she spoke back to me, we laughed I made mistakes but it was alright, nobody’s perfect (always remember that) my client had enjoyed her service and even rebooked with me.  I would say that’s a job well done, wouldn’t you??

Transitioning Pt. 2

Finals are over, I passed…Yeah Me!! lol.  Now the fun begins.  I’m guessing that everyone understands that life happens and while I was transitioning to the floor I had a few bumps in the road.  I was a little down about not being able to work on clients along with everyone else but I knew once I did get there that it would be GREAT, and you know something, it was!!  My jumpstart to reality as a nail tech was blowing,  full steam ahead, are you ready for the journey??

Transitioning pt. 1

Hi everyone, I know it’s been a while since we last spoke but that’s the great thing about being a nail tech, it keeps you busy.  Wow where should I start, alright the time of 150 hours was fast approaching and I was super anxious, it was almost time for me and my fellow classmates to begin our journey as advanced students and begin working on the public, see you soon…..

Pedicures….The utmost in a Pamper Experience

Some people shy away from the feet but when you’re in the nail industry, you know the industry where your job is to make people look and feel beautiful then you should understand this next statement.  Someone once told me that when they get their feet done that they feel so pretty afterwards.  Pretty??? It is truly great to know that just working on someones feet could make them feel beautiful.  When you think of someone feeling beautiful you normally think that they would be referring to a makeover or getting their hair done, but their feet????? I am so happy with my choice to become a nail techinician.  Pedicures are just as important of a service a woman and a man receives in regards to the whole pampering experience.  Oh yes, also….pedicures are not just a summer thing….we get them year round, every day in school and I love to know that maybe this pedicure will be the one to make my clients feel beautiful inside and out.

A touch of design

Nail Design

I used a striper brush to create this design

I absolutely love this part of the nail process. Learning about new techniques to use on your clients is great but when you actually get the chance to be creative it’s a definite plus. I like the fact that you don’t have to be an artist to create something beautiful for your client, you just have to believe in your work and that’s one of the things that I love about nail design. There is no such thing as a mistake in nail design, just remember that, and you are sure to go far.

The Adventurous MisAdventures of Acrylics

The title says it all, right??? After wraps I was so excited to get into acrylics, you know, really get my hands dirty, well sort of??  This was it, the cu de’ gra of it all. I was introduced to Clarite’.  It’s an odorless acrylic…What???? Are you serious?? Odorless?? This was so not what I was expecting…I’m use to your traditional acrylic, you know the runny, watery, stuff, working fast just to keep up before you dry out. The entire chemistry of the acrylic was so different from what I was use to. This was so not what I signed up for. My teacher Mrs. Martin was a pro at it….I mean she made it look so beautiful and so easy.  I practiced many of nights working to perfect my technique, and sure enough I took to the art like a fish to water.  Opi’s Clarite had officially renewed my faith and changed my views about acrylics and also trying new things that I wasn’t keen to trying in the past.  Sometimes it’s hard to break old habits but in the end it was well worth it.

Are you Gel-in

Ahh, one of my favorites.  Being that we are an OPI school we get to try out the many different products that OPI has to offer and one of them of course is the Axxium System.  I was more than super excited to try it out. And trust if you love playing with acrylics, the Axxium gel is sure to give you a run for your money. I love the fact that if you mess up on your gels all you have to do is wipe it off or just add more, it’s a very forgiving product.  It gives you a chance to quickly fix your mistaskes.  I might have to say that the gel tops the number one spot among my classmates.

A Tip is not just A Tip

When I first began to do nails I never thought about how important your foundation was (the tip).  Yeah I believed all you have to do is  just glue it on and boy was I wrong.  We had a lesson on actual tip application and were taught that the tip is the root of your work.  If you can’t get that right then your whole service falls apart.  Needless to say, it was a task that I had to get use to but the teachers and classmates made it easy and fun to learn.  So when you choose to be a Nail at MCB always remember to Stop, Rock, and hold.  (Don’t worry when you get here you’ll understand)…LOL

Getting Started

The MCB experience:

…from a student nail tech point of view of course. Things started as smooth as butter for me. I came, I saw, I was ready to apply. The bright lights and shiny paved floors added a bit of excitement to the thought of me living out my dreams as a nail professional. I saw things clearly that day. I want to be a nail technician and this was the place where my journey would begin.”
